Scenario of State of Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is the southern-most Indian state, surrounded by Andhra Pradesh on the north, Karnataka & Kerala on the west, Indian Ocean on the south, and Bay of Bengal on the east. Tamil Nadu is among the most industrialised states in the country.

Economic Snapshot

  • Tamil Nadu’s Net State Domestic Product (NSDP) was about Rs 14.41 trillion (US$199.69 billion) in 2018-19.

  • NSDP of the state grew at a CAGR of 11.45 per cent between 2011-12 and 2018-19.

  • The state’s per capita NSDP was Rs 186,177.65 (US$ 2,580.42) in 2018-19.

  • The per capita NSDP increased at a CAGR of 10.43 per cent between 2011-12 and 2018-19

  • Tamil Nadu recorded $ 25273.63 Million worth of exports in 2019-20 (Apr-Jan), contributing 9.54% to India's net exports. 

  • According to the DPIIT, cumulative FDI inflows* in Tamil Nadu during April 2000 to September 2019 stood at US$ 31.20 billion.
