Haryana state has 21 administrative districts with union territory of Chandigarh as its capital, which is also administrative capital of State of Punjab. The State surrounds the National Capital City, New Delhi, from three sides with around 40 % of the National Capital Region (NCR) falling in Haryana.

Haryana is the leading contributor to the country’s production of milk and food grains. The gross cropped area of the state is 6.51 million Ha and net cropped area is 3.64 million Ha with a cropping intensity of 184.91%. The state has diverse agro-ecology and cropping pattern. The major crops produced in the state are rice, wheat, sugarcane, cotton, oilseeds, pearl millet, gram, Kinnow, Mango, Guava, and Strawberry etc.. More than 60% export of Basmati Rice from India takes place from Haryana.

Though Haryana is one of the smallest States in India with 4.4 million hectares of land, forming 1.34 percent of the total geographical area of the country , agriculture sector contributes about 15% share to the State GDP
