Goa is located in the western region of India. The state shares its border with the Arabian Sea to the west, Maharashtra to the north and Karnataka to the south and the east. Languages spoken are Konkani, Marathi, Portuguese, Hindi and English. Goa’s administrative headquarters are located at Panaji (the state capital) and Margao. The state has two districts: North Goa and South Goa. Goa has a tropical climate, with a monsoons lasting from June to September. Due to its long coastline, the weather is hot and humid for the rest of the year.
Agriculture is one of the important economic activities in Goa. The region endowed with wide range of land forms, water bodies and climate has potential for cereals and plantation crops, fruits, vegetables, flowers, dairying, poultry, piggery, rabbitry and fishery. The soils are red latertic in hilly part and alluvial along the coast. Rice is the principal crop of the state.
